The Role and Tasks of Safety Professionals in Poland

The paper will describe the results of the survey of the tasks performed by safety professionals in Poland. The survey was conducted in the framework of the research organized under the auspices of the International Social Security Association by Prof. A.R. Hale. The paper presents the brief review of the regulatory context of the work of safety profession in Poland and its organization in the companies and organization of the study and issues connected with adapting the questionnaire to the Polish context. The results of the study presented in the paper include analysis of the core tasks performed by safety professionals, main hazards they deal with in their work, their internal and external relations and relations between this aspects of their job.

INTRODUCTION

The 50th anniversary of the creation of occupational health and safety services in Poland was celebrated in 2003. The official date of their establishment is 1 August 1953. Then the resolution no 592 of the Presidium of the Government, on the guarantee of the progress in the area of occupational health and safety, was adopted. It was the first legal act regulating the activity of occupational health and safety services in post war Poland. Next regulations related to the activity of occupational health and safety services were adopted in 1968, 1974, and 1992 and in 1997, when the Resolution of the Council of Ministers on occupational health and safety services, now in force, was adopted.
