Maria Seguí-Gómez, MD, MPH, MSc and ScD is a graduate from both the University of Barcelona School of Medicine and Harvard UniversitySchool of Public Health. Since 1993 her work has evolved around the epidemiology of injuries and the effectiveness and efficiency of preventive interventions, in particular on motor vehicle injuries. Her stay at Harvard culminated with her being the Deputy Director of theHarvard Injury Control Center. She then moved to Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health, where she was a corefaculty of the Injury Control and Research Center and still holds anadjunct associate professor appointment.  In November 2002 she joined the faculty of the University of Navarra where she is tenured and were she led to the establishment of the European Center for Injury Prevention.Since 2009 she is visiting professor at the University of Virginia.   In 2010 she was appointed as Director General for Public Health, Drug Dependencies and Consumer Affairs at the Regional Government of Castilla la Mancha and since Februraru 2012 she is Director General for Traffic for Spain.  Her particular areas of research evolve around injury information systems (development and quality), injury indicators, injury outcomes measures, and effectiveness and economic evaluation of (mostly) motor vehicle-related injuries. Besides her peer-reviewed publications, she has taught  numerous injury-related courses. Dr. Segui-Gomez has been a member of the Executive Board of the AAAM and has chaired its Abbreviated Injury Severity Committee. She was an active member of the Injury Sections of the American and the European Public Health Associations, a member of the Spanish Association of Epidemiology, board member of the International Society for Violence and Injury Prevention, and a member of the Editorial Boards of the scientific journals“Injury Prevention” and “Accident Analysis and Prevention”.


María Seguí Gómez es licenciada en Medicina General y Cirugía y Master en Salud Pública  por la Universidad de Barcelona y Master en Ciencias Políticas y Doctora en Ciencias Políticas por la Universidad de Harvard.  Su trabajo desde 1993 se ha desarrollado sobre la epidemiología de las lesiones y la efectividad y eficiencia de medidas preventivas, particularmente sobre las lesiones por accidente de tráfico.  
 
Su estancia en Harvard culminó siendo la Subdirectora del Harvard Injury Control Center. Después fue profesora titular de la Escuela de Salud Pública Bloomberg de la Universidad de Johns Hopkins, donde era miembro del Centro de Injury Control and Research CEnter.   
 
En noviembre de 2002 regresó a España como profesora titular de la Universidad de Navarra donde fundó el Centro Europeo para la Prevención de las Lesiones. 

Desde 2009 es también profesora visitante de la Universidad de Virginia. 

En 2010 fue nombrada Directora General de Salud Pública, Drogodependencias y Consumo en la Junta de Comunidades de Castilla-La Mancha.

Desde Febrero de 2011 es la Directora General de Tráfico.   

Sus áreas de interés en la investigación giran en torno al desarrollo y calidad del los sistemas de información, los indicadores de lesiones, las medidas de consecuencia de lesiones y la efectividad y evaluación económica de medidas para prevenir lesiones por accidente de tráfico. 

La Doctora  Seguí Gómez ha sido: miembro del Consejo de la AAAM y ha presidido el Comité de la Escala Abbreviated Injury Severity, miembro activo de las Asociaciones Americanas y Europeas de Salud Pública, miembro de la asociación española de Epidemiología, miembro de la sociedad internacional para la prevención de violencia y lesiones y miembro de los equipos editoriales de las revistas científicas de "Injury Prevention" y "Accident Analysis y Prevention".
